The driver — the circuit that regulates current to the LEDs — is the most failure-prone part of a vehicle lamp. Encapsulant potting locks every component and solder joint in resin, so continuous vibration cannot fracture them and condensation cannot bridge them.
Why it matters on machinery
Machinery lives with hours of continuous vibration that hairline-cracks unpotted circuit boards. Vibration resistance matters as much as the IP rating: always check that the driver is potted and the bracket is rated for shock loads.
How to verify
Ask the supplier directly — “is the driver potted?” — and request the vibration test level (e.g. tested to 6–15 G depending on class). All Tough Lighting work lights use potted drivers with stainless steel mounting hardware; see heavy duty work lights for the highest-vibration duty cycles.
