Vehicle electrical systems are split between 12 V and 24 V nominal. A multi-volt driver regulates its LED current across the whole 9–32 V window, riding out the sags and spikes of cranking, alternator load-dump and long cable runs.
Why fleets standardise on it
One part number that fits every machine in the yard halves the spares shelf: distributors and fleet workshops stock a handful of multi-volt models instead of separate 12 V and 24 V variants. It also removes the failure mode of a lamp wired to the wrong system voltage.
Related protections to look for
Reverse-polarity protection (survives wrong-way wiring) and overvoltage protection (survives voltage spikes) usually accompany a good multi-volt driver. Every light in our LED work light range accepts 9–32 V DC with both protections built in.
