Most work trucks start life as a pickup. A heavy-duty pickup chassis — the F-250/F-350 or 2500/3500 class — gets a service body with tool compartments, and utility crews, mechanics, and contractors run their day out of it: opening compartments, running a compressor or a crane, working at the tailboard, often before sunrise or after dark. Medium-duty bucket and mechanics trucks do the same job on a bigger frame. The lights on the body decide whether a job takes ten minutes or thirty, and whether the crew is seen when the truck is stopped at the roadside.

Where lights go on a work truck or service body
A typical lighting plan covers four zones: compartment lights inside the tool boxes so a technician can find parts without a torch; step and tailboard lights for the work platform; body-side flood lights mounted high on the compartment tops to light the working perimeter without shadows; and an amber beacon on the cab or headache rack for roadside warning — all wired to the upfitter switches in the cab so the whole body lights up with one press. Sizing the lights for each position
Service-body lighting is a low-to-mid power job. Compartment and step positions need 12–24 W (960–1,920 lm) in a 3.5–5.8 inch housing that fits inside a tool-box lid. Body-side floods on a pickup-based body run 24–60 W (1,920–4,800 lm), mounted at the compartment tops and angled down — going brighter mostly adds glare for the crew and draw on the battery. Medium-duty bucket and mechanics trucks that have to light a full working area take 60–120 W (4,800–9,600 lm) scene lights, and the 160 W (12,800 lm) heavy-duty light is the top of what a truck body needs. Scene lighting and warning lights are different jobs
White floods illuminate the work; amber warning lights make the stopped truck visible — and in a growing number of US states a service vehicle on the shoulder is only covered by Move Over laws while it is showing amber warning lights. Keep the two jobs separate: a flood aimed at passing traffic blinds drivers, and a beacon does nothing to light a compartment. We supply the beacon part of that package: 3-3/4 inch and 5-1/4 inch amber LED strobe beacons, sealed to IP69K and offered in 9–32 V through 10–110 V DC versions, for cab or headache-rack mounting. Surface-mount strobe modules and mini light bars are not in our range; specify them from your warning-light supplier and we will match beacon colour and mounting.

Yes. Every work light in the range accepts 9–32 V DC, so one part number serves 12 V pickups and 24 V medium-duty chassis alike. The amber beacons are offered in 9–32 V, 10–48 V, 10–60 V, and 10–110 V DC versions for mixed equipment fleets.
Will pressure washing and road salt damage the lights?
No. Housings are sealed to IP67–IP69K with the drivers potted in resin, and the brackets are stainless steel, so the lights are rated for daily washdown and winter road salt. Tell us your washdown routine and we will confirm the right rating for each mounting position.
What is the difference between a scene light and a work light?
Aim and output. A work light is pointed at a task area — a compartment, a step, a crane hook — and 12–24 W is usually enough. A body-side flood lights the ground along the truck at 24–60 W. A scene light is a higher-output flood mounted high on a medium-duty body to light the whole working area; in our range the 60–120 W heavy-duty lights take that role.
Which beacon colour is allowed on a work truck?
Amber is the colour permitted for utility, construction, and service vehicles in most jurisdictions; red and blue are reserved for emergency services, and the use of green varies by state and country.
