When a haul truck or a large excavator works around the clock, lighting cannot be the component that fails. These 35 heavy duty work lights — factory-direct LED units from 12 W access and step lights up to 12.5 inch 290 W and 13 inch 580 W high-output floods — are built to the IP69K standard for mining equipment that gets pressure-washed daily, runs through abrasive dust and never stops vibrating. Every model is offered in flood and spot optics, runs on 9–32 V DC and carries EMC suppression to CISPR 25.

We supply OEM equipment brands and mining, construction and marine parts distributors. The sections below give the three output tiers, where each goes on the common machines, and what we test before a model ships.

What makes a work light heavy duty

Not the wattage. This range starts at 12 W and runs to 580 W, and our general work light range reaches 192 W — the two overlap. Two things separate them.

The machine it is built for. Construction and mining equipment: excavators, wheel loaders, dozers, haul trucks, drill rigs and cranes. The vibration, dust, wash-down pressure and hours these machines put on a lamp are not the same duty as a tractor or a delivery truck.

How it is constructed. Solid-state build with no filament to fracture, driver electronics fully potted in resin, stainless steel brackets, and vibration testing on our own shaker table before a model ships. That construction is the same across the whole range: the 12 W step light and the 580 W area flood are built the same way, and differ in housing size and output.

How to choose a heavy duty work light

Specifying lighting for large machinery comes down to three decisions:

  • Output tier — Match the tier to the position: compact units for steps, handrails and boom tips; the 60–120 W tier for cab, body and counterweight positions; the 160–580 W floods for lighting a whole loading zone or bench face from one high mounting point.
  • Sealing and impact — IP69K housings survive daily high-pressure, high-temperature wash-downs and the abrasive dust that sandblasts ordinary lenses; heavy-gauge housings and stainless-steel brackets take stone strikes and stay put.
  • Electrical — Every model accepts 9–32 V DC, so one part number serves 12 V vehicles and 24 V mining and construction machines, and potted drivers ride out alternator spikes and continuous engine vibration.

Three output tiers

Heavy duty work light output tiers and where each one goes

Where the lights go: haul trucks, excavators, loaders, dozers, drills

  • Haul and dump trucks — a forward pair for the haul road, high-mounted floods each side of the cab for the loading zone, and rear floods over the dump body and tailgate; a large truck typically carries 8–12 light positions.
  • Excavators — floods on the cab roof and body sides, two on the counterweight facing rear (aim them down: this is the position that blinds ground crew), and one or two compact units on the boom for the bucket; 7–9 positions is the usual plan for a mid-size machine.
  • Wheel loaders — cab roof front and rear, rear grille or counterweight, and lower floods for the bucket edge; the loader works both directions all shift, so rear lighting matters as much as front.
  • Dozers and graders — ROPS front and rear floods plus blade-side units; compact tier on the ripper.
  • Drill rigs and cranes — mast or boom-mounted floods in the main tier, area floods for the working deck, compact units on walkways and steps.

Send us the machine model and we will lay the positions out with wattage and beam for each one; the mining equipment, construction and earthmoving and marine vessels application pages show the plans by industry.

Glare, beam pattern and colour

On a site where people work around the machine at night, glare is a safety issue, not a comfort issue. Use wide flood optics for everything except the forward driving pair, mount body and counterweight floods high and aim them down so the beam edge lands short of the walkway, and keep spot beams for the haul road. Cut-off optics that hard-clip the upper beam are currently available in our LED headlight range, not in the work-light floods; if a position needs a cut-off work light, tell us and we will advise. Our beam patterns glossary entry explains what each optic does on the ground.

What we test before a model ships

Every model in this range goes through vibration testing on our own shaker table, water immersion and high-pressure spray to the IP69K procedure, thermal shock cycling, salt spray and dust ingress before release, and burn-in on alternating 12 V and 24 V input. The test benches are shown on our manufacturing and testing page. Spec sheets list wattage, lumen output, voltage, beam pattern and dimensions per model; detailed test data for a specific model is available on request.

From the quarry face to the jobsite

Mining sets the hardest baseline, and the same lights specified for haul trucks and underground loaders also serve construction and earthmoving machines — excavators, dozers and wheel loaders share the same enemies: dust, impact and long night shifts. Marine work decks and fishing vessels take the same IP69K floods for salt spray. For lighter, general-purpose duty across a mixed fleet, our full LED work light range of 263 models starts at 10 W and shares the same construction standards.

Built for 24-hour duty cycles

A light that fails on a night shift stops production until someone can reach it — often at the top of a machine that has to be parked first. That is why this range removes the usual failure paths: solid-state LEDs with no filament to fracture, potted electronics that absorb round-the-clock vibration, sealed IP69K housings that keep mine dust and wash water out, and EMC suppression to CISPR 25 so machine electronics, proximity systems and radios stay clean.

OEM and wholesale ordering

As a heavy duty work light manufacturer, we supply OEM equipment brands and mining and construction parts distributors worldwide. Standard MOQ is 60 pieces per model with production lead times of 15–25 working days; we send 1–5 samples first so your fleet can run them through real shifts before you commit. Private-label branding, custom connectors and cable lengths are available, and certification documentation for your market is available on request. Tell us your machines and duty cycle and our engineers will specify the lighting package position by position.

Fitting out a service body? Our work truck and service body lighting guide shows which wattage goes in each position.

Beyond the catalogue, we also develop lights from scratch to customer requirements — from design and 3D-printed prototypes to production tooling, with exclusive supply protection. Learn more about our custom LED light development service.

Which specifications can be compared between suppliers, and which cannot, is set out in our guide to LED lights for heavy equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much area will a 290W or 580W light cover?

Enough to light a loading zone or a bench face from one high mounting point: the 290 W unit delivers 23,200 lm and the 580 W unit 46,400 lm, both in flood or spot optics. Exact coverage depends on mounting height and aim, so send us the machine and the area you need lit and we will work out the position and beam.

Is a higher wattage light automatically heavier duty?

No. This range starts at 12 W and our general work light range reaches 192 W, so wattage alone does not tell you which is which. Wattage sets light output. What makes a lamp heavy duty is the machine it is built for and how it is constructed — potted driver, stainless brackets, solid-state build, shaker-table tested. A 12 W step light on an excavator is heavy duty; a 190 W lamp on a trailer is not.

How many lights does an excavator or haul truck need?

Plan by position rather than by count. A mid-size excavator usually carries 7–9 positions — cab roof, body sides, two on the counterweight facing rear, and one or two on the boom; a large haul truck carries 8–12, with a forward pair, high-mounted side floods for the loading zone and rear floods over the dump body. Send us the model and we will lay the positions out with a wattage for each.

Are these rated for continuous operation?

Yes. Heavy-duty models use thermal management designed to sustain output over long shifts, and every model is burn-in tested on alternating 12 V and 24 V input before release.

What voltage do these run on?

Every model accepts 9–32 V DC, so it runs natively on 12 V vehicles and 24 V mining and construction machines without a converter, and the potted drivers ride out alternator spikes and starter dips. Confirm the system voltage on the quote and we will list the part numbers.

How do these lights survive constant vibration on large machines?

Through solid-state construction: the LED array has no filament to fracture, the driver electronics are fully potted in resin, and the brackets are stainless steel, so round-the-clock vibration never works a joint loose. Every model is vibration-tested on our own shaker table before release; detailed test data for a specific model is available on request.

Will high-power floods disturb mine site radios and telematics?

No — every model carries EMC suppression engineered to CISPR 25, so even the 290 W and 580 W floods run alongside two-way radios, proximity systems and telematics without noise. See our CISPR 25 glossary entry for what the standard covers.

How do we keep body and counterweight floods from blinding ground crew?

Mount them high and aim them down so the beam edge lands short of the walkway, and use wide flood rather than spot optics for every position except the forward driving pair. Cut-off optics that clip the upper beam are currently in our headlight range rather than the work-light floods; if a position needs one, tell us and we will advise on the closest option.

Can you quote a lighting package for 24V haul trucks?

Yes — all 35 models accept 9–32 V DC and run natively on 24 V mining machines, from access and step lights to the 580 W high-mount floods. Send your machine list and duty cycle and request a quote for a full-vehicle package, position by position.
