Agricultural work lights live a harder life than almost any other vehicle light: chemical spray, mud thrown at speed, and 12-hour shifts of continuous diesel vibration.
Pick the wrong specification and the cost is not the light — it is the harvest-season downtime while you wait for a replacement.
We supply work lights for tractors and harvesters to OEM and fleet customers, and the five specifications below are where the field failures we see actually come from.
Here is what to check before a bulk order — in the order that eliminates the most risk first.
1. IP Rating: IP67 Is the Minimum, IP69K Is the Standard
IP ratings measure dust protection (first digit) and water protection (second digit). For agricultural machinery the floor is IP67 — dust-tight and waterproof to 1 metre.
But modern tractors get pressure-washed, and that requires IP69K: 80°C water at 80–100 bar from four angles — the farm washdown, replicated in a lab.

2. Wattage vs. Lumens: What Actually Matters
Wattage is what you pay in power. Lumens are what you get in light.
A well-engineered 50W LED work light produces 5,000–6,000 measured lumens. A 50W light quoted at 8,000 lumens is using theoretical chip output, not fixture output — ask for IES LM-79 data.
Practical placement: a front 50W flood covers headland turning distance; a rear 48W combination beam covers implement monitoring. Stay under 100W per light unless roof-mounting a large combine.
3. Vibration Resistance: The Spec That Eliminates Most Failures
Diesel tractors produce sustained low-frequency vibration. Cheap lights with floating PCBs crack their solder joints within 200–500 operating hours.
Specify SAE J1455 vibration and shock compliance, or MIL-STD-810G Method 514 equivalent.
The most robust construction is a fully potted housing — PCB and LEDs encapsulated in thermally conductive resin, so nothing can move. Potted designs routinely exceed 5,000 hours in high-vibration service.
4. Beam Pattern: Flood vs. Spot vs. Combination
Flood (wide, short range): front work lighting within 10 metres, rear implement monitoring, cab-roof downlight for loading.
Spot (narrow, long range): headland approach at speed, row-end visibility, road transport.
Combination (split array): both functions in one housing. Most OEM front positions use combination; rear positions are almost always flood.
5. Connector and Voltage Compatibility
European agricultural machinery mostly runs Deutsch DT or Sumitomo HW connectors — 12V on smaller tractors, 24V on larger machines. North American equipment leans Weather Pack.

- Measured lumens verified by IES LM-79 data — not chip ratings

- Beam pattern matched to the mounting position
- Connector and voltage confirmed against the machine
